New Scholarship at SPC for 2018

ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE ANNOUNCES THREE PROGRAMS WHERE ITS STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR $27,000 IN NEW SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING FROM BAPTIST HEALTH FOUNDATION OF SAN ANTONIO

With affordable tuition, the funding supports career dreams of college’s economically disadvantaged invasive cardiovascular technology, physical therapist assistant and radiography technologist students

The financial futures of St. Philip's College students were placed first when Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio, the Tenet Healthcare Foundation and Baptist Health System ceremonially co-announced that students at the college will receive a fair share in a new $2 million scholarship program that will help make higher education accessible for economically disadvantaged high school graduates who want to pursue educations for careers in three health professions at the college.

St. Philip’s College announced today that the three programs this scholarship funding applies to at its institution are Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant and Radiography Technologist.

As a part of the foundation's traditional scholarship program, this new initiative is being managed by and funded with a $1,076,000 grant from the foundation. A gift of $1 million to be paid over the next five years is being given to the scholarship program from the Tenet Healthcare Foundation, part of Tenet Healthcare, the parent company of Baptist Health System.

With a $27,000 award, current and prospective St. Philip's College students were included as the need-based scholarships will go to students enrolled in health-related academic programs at the bachelor’s degree level and below. Students at St. Philip's College are attending one of the 12 postsecondary institutions in the San Antonio area identified by the foundation with such health-related academic programs eligible for scholarship consideration as nursing, social work, psychology, nutrition, medical, counseling, therapeutic care, hospital administration and EMT. 

Baptist Health System is a perennial site for the real-world and hands-on clinical portion of student study that is synonymous with the St. Philip's College experience in invasive cardiovascular technology, physical therapy assistant and radiography technologist. From its campus at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive, those students build exceptionally critical knowledge in the college’s $49 million Center for Health Professions facility that was opened in 2009.
