ST. PHILIP'S COLLEGE HOSTS NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS-TEXAS 2019 SOCIAL WORK MONTH AWARDS LUNCH

To further prepare the next generation of social work professionals, a pre-concentration in Social Work at St. Philip's College for enrollment in Fall of 2019 has also recently been announced

The community of more than 3,500 social and behavioral sciences students who annually build their knowledge at St. Philip's College are helping the largest organization of professional social workers in the world to observe the 2019 Social Work Month season in a partnership event with Texas members of the professional membership association that advocates for social workers, advances the profession of social work, and promotes sound public policy that is designed to ensure that human needs are met. 

St. Philip's College is the venue partner of the National Association of Social Workers-Texas 2019 Social Work Month Awards Lunch, a paid registration-required event March 1 at 11:30 a.m. in the Bowden Alumni Center on the third floor of the college's G. J. Sutton Learning Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive, one floor above the college's Social and Behavioral Sciences department.

Founded in 1955, the association's 155,000 members in 55 chapters include nearly 6,000 in the Texas chapter. The following individuals have been announced online by the association this to receive recognition during the March 1 event:

  • Social Work Student of the Year – Caitlin Caswell
  • Social Worker of the Year – Kimberly Goodwin
  • Lifetime Achievement Award – Jolyn Mikow
  • Public Official Award – John Courage
  • Public Citizen of the Year – Kevin Downey
  • Media Award – Elaine Ayala
  • Media Award – Darian Trotter-Thomas
